The 2023 edition of the International Pairs World Final has ended in Obidos, Portugal with the host country clinching the trophy.
The tournament – which lasted from the 6th through the 10th of November, 2023 – had golfers from 20 participating countries lock horns in a fierce competition for laurels.
Although Nigeria’s International Pairs Champions/Team Nigeria, Usenobong Akpabio and Edidiong Idiong, may not have won the trophy, having finished in the sixth position, remarkably unprecedented and heartwarming positives have been recorded by the team.
According to the Ibom Golf Club Captain and one of two Nigeria’s representatives at the Mundial, Usenobong Akpabio, Team Nigeria has sealed a spot in the International Pairs Festival of Golf billed for May 2024 in Thailand.
The Nigerian Team outperformed 14 of the 20 teams in the competition to win the last spot in the automatic qualification slots, which was only available for the top six teams in the tournament, for the International Pairs Festival. The International Golf Festival is a conglomeration of amateur golfers from different international world golf finals.
On another positive note struck by the team, according to Rt. Hon. (Barr) Akpabio, Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, Nigeria has been considered as the next host of the International Pairs World Final slated for November 2024. This consideration, Usenobong said was courtesy of their numerous relentless engagements, intentional positive projections, and conscious efforts in marketing the State, Akwa Ibom at the tournament.
While expressing gratitude to God for a successful outing, Usenobong Akpabio also conveyed the Nigerian Team’s profound gratitude to Equatorial Parks and Premises Ltd for sponsoring the team and also extended their appreciation to all well-wishers for the support and prayers.
Now that the 2023 edition of the International Pairs World Final is over, it is the expectation of golf enthusiasts, supporters, and well-wishers that Team Nigeria will leave no stone unturned to achieve their Portuguese counterparts’ 2023 Host and Win feat, as Nigeria/Ibom Golf Resort has been considered to host 2024 edition of the tournament.
