There is something special about reading while on holiday. Maybe it is the slower pace, the feel of not rushing out to work, meetings or school. Or probably not responding to “kind regards”. We can relate to it all.
For most people, holidays are the perfect time to finally open that book they have been meaning to read, while at 30,000ft above sea level, sitting by the beach front, sipping wine, sitting on the balcony, having a “me time” or sitting at the top most floor with a great view. 5 – 15 minutes of flipping through those pages, you have procrastinated, can change a lot, so sit back, relax and enjoy your read.
Here are our summer recommendations in no particular order:
- “ Part of Your World” by Abby Jimenez
- “The Heart Principle” by Helen Hoang
- “ The secret lives of Baba Segi’s wives” by Lola shoneyin
- “Confessions of an alleged good girl” by Joya Goffney
- “ Act your Age, Eve brown” by Talia Hibbert
- “Only big bumbum matters tomorrow” by Damilare Kuku
- “Home body “ Rupi Kaur
- “ Seven Days in June” by Tia Williams
- “ Dream count” by Chimamanda Adichie
- “You made a fool of death with your beauty”, by Akwaeke Emezi
So before you zip up that suitcase or settle into your seat, remember to leave room for a book or two. Books can transform a boring day or trip into something more colourful, thoughtful, and connected.
Happy reading, and happy holidays.
